Smoked Rose Cocktail

Smoked rose is a fabulous scotch cocktail that brings a different smoky flavour to the mix. It’s an aromatic delight and a brilliant new way to enjoy your favourite whisky.

Smoked Rose Cocktail

This recipe comes from The Famous Grouse. It features one of the brand’s signature blended scotch expressions, Smoky Black, which you may know better as The Black Grouse (it has recently been rebranded). The scotch provides a nice smoky, sweet background to this cocktail and it is highly recommended to stick to it.

The other ‘smoke’ in the cocktail comes from burning a sprig of dried rosemary to flavour the glass. Not only does it add flavour to the drink, but it fills the room with an inviting aroma that captures the attention of everyone present.

In support of this, rosemary syrup sweetens the cocktail and Green Chartreuse adds its seductive herbal matrix to the mix. Even if you don’t smoke rosemary, it’s a pleasant drink.

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup sugar (white granules)
  • 3 tablespoons of rosemary

For the Cocktail

  • 1 sprig of dried rosemary
  • 2 ounces of Scotch whisky
  • 1/4 ounce rosemary syrup
  • 1/2 ounce Green Chartreuse

SYRUP INDICATIONS

  1. Gather the ingredients.
  2. In a small saucepan, bring the water to a slow boil.
  3. Add the sugar and stir until completely dissolved.
  4. Reduce the heat, add the rosemary and cover the saucepan. Leave to simmer for 15 minutes.
  5. Remove the pan from the heat and allow the syrup to cool completely, keeping it covered.
  6. Drain the rosemary and bottle the flavoured syrup in an airtight glass jar. It should be kept in the fridge and will keep for about 2 weeks.

COCKTAIL INDICATIONS

  1. Smoke a coupe glass to flavour the inside: Light the sprig of dried rosemary on the fire, turn off the flame and place it inside the glass.
  2. In a cocktail glass filled with ice, pour the Scotch, the rosemary syrup and the green Chartreuse. Stir well.
  3. Strain into the smoked glass.
  4. Serve and enjoy!
